Academic teaching

2010; 2015–2026 Animation Workshop — Instructor. Practical teaching in animated filmmaking within the university’s audiovisual directing programme, emphasizing animation as a foundation of cinematic language and combining chronophotography, optical toys, stop motion, collage and rotoscopy. Students move between handmade and digital processes, material experimentation, sound and short-form audiovisual creation.

2021–2026 Thesis Film Workshop — Professor / Thesis Film Workshop Instructor. Supervision and creative guidance of students’ graduation-film projects.

2024 Prácticas Experimentales / Experimental Cinema, Master’s Level — Instructor, Master’s in Film and Audiovisual Studies, Instituto Interdisciplinario de Estética UC, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Practical-theoretical course linking the origins of cinema and experimental-film history with materiality, stop motion, archive work, image intervention, montage and sound. The course uses play, hybrid creation and collective methods to develop an individual experimental language.

2015–2016; 2018–2020 Thesis-Film Directing Advising — Directing Advisor. Guided film students in the direction of their graduation projects.

2026 Experimental Film Laboratory — Instructor, Universidad Diego Portales. Theoretical-practical laboratory approaching experimental cinema as a daily, multidimensional practice across celluloid, analog video, found footage, stop motion, sound, digital tools and AI. Students work through hybrid materials, cross-disciplinary methods and a sequence of short creative studies culminating in a collectively structured final work.

2023–present Animation Workshop — Instructor, Department of Film and Audiovisual Production, Universidad Diego Portales. Practical course moving from chronophotography and optical devices through stop motion, collage and rotoscopy, with an emphasis on handmade processes, materiality and their integration with digital image and sound workflows.

2023 Introduction to Audiovisual Creation — Instructor, Department of Film and Audiovisual Production, Universidad Diego Portales. Introductory theoretical-practical course in storytelling, camera placement, blocking, lighting, sound, point of view and mise-en-scène. Students developed individual and group exercises combining technical skills with personal perspective and short-form filmmaking.

2022–2023 Film Direction: Approaching Fiction Now — Visiting Professor / Guest Lecturer. Visiting teaching on film direction and approaches to contemporary fiction filmmaking.

2021–2023 Approaching Narrative: Introduction to Filmmaking — Visiting Professor / Guest Lecturer. Visiting teaching in introductory filmmaking, focused on narrative approaches.

2021–2022 True Fiction: Intermediate Filmmaking — Visiting Professor / Guest Lecturer. Visiting teaching in intermediate-level fiction filmmaking.

2017–2026 (intermittent periods) Thesis-Project Supervision and Directing Advising — Professor and Directing Advisor. Supervised thesis films and guided students’ directing projects.

2021–2022 Thesis Film Workshop — Instructor. Thesis-film teaching focused on Cinematography and feature-film projects.

2020–2021 Cinematography Workshop / Cinematography and Soundtrack Creation II — Instructor, Universidad del Desarrollo. Course on visual and sonic authorship connecting painting, photography, texture, atmosphere and soundscape with cinematographic practice. Exercises explored visual composition, emotional texture, image–sound relationships, offscreen space, lighting and color, including collaborative work with the sound component.

2020–2021 Fiction Filmmaking V / Taller de Realización Cinematográfica V — Instructor, Universidad del Desarrollo. Advanced authorial-fiction workshop focused on developing a coherent relationship between narrative content and cinematic form across directing, Art Direction, Cinematography, Sound and Editing. Students developed scripts, intention statements, pitches, production dossiers and short films; the 2020 edition adapted this process to home-based filmmaking with mobile phones, archives and available materials during pandemic restrictions.

2019 Directing Advising for Thesis Films — Directing Advisor. Guided the direction of students’ thesis-film projects.

2019–2020 Cinematic Experiments Workshop — Instructor, Universidad de Chile. Semester-long practical-theoretical course crossing early and experimental cinema with visual art, literature, performance, animation, image intervention, montage, sound, collective writing and directing exercises. The first edition taught by Atallah, in 2019, culminated in the collective medium-length film Mammalia Myomorpha, filmed at Los Traperos de Emaús and in Pudahuel, Santiago, Chile.

2019–2020 Advanced Directing Workshop — Instructor. Advanced teaching focused on film direction. 

2018–2019 Directing Advising for Thesis Films — Directing Advisor, Film Programme. Guided students’ directing work on graduation-film projects.

2018 Taller de Realización V — Instructor, Audiovisual Communication Programme (CAV), Instituto Profesional ARCOS. Semester workshop exploring hybrid audiovisual forms across fiction, documentary and web formats. Students developed projects through writing and research, pitching, production dossiers and assigned crew roles, then carried selected works through shooting, editing, sound and image post-production to final exhibition.

2016–2018 Telefilm Workshop — Instructor, Television Programme, Instituto Profesional ARCOS. Group production workshop centered on a 24-minute telefilm adapted from a short story. Students moved from literary adaptation and screenplay development through pre-production, assigned department roles, shooting, editing, sound and image post-production, concluding with a finished group screening.

2015–2018 Fiction Filmmaking II — Instructor, Film Programme, Instituto Profesional ARCOS. Collaborative fiction-filmmaking workshop in which students developed short films from screenplay and character research through pitching, project dossiers, department responsibilities, shooting and post-production. Emphasis on rigorous teamwork, coherent authorial choices and carrying each production role through final exhibition.

2015–2017 Film Thesis Workshop — Instructor, Instituto Profesional ARCOS. Advanced graduation-film workshop guiding professional short-film projects from pitch and screenplay development through pre-production, production and post-production. Students assumed department leadership roles and worked with area advisors while developing a coherent authorial, technical and production approach through final exhibition.

2015–2017 Documentary Filmmaking I — Instructor, Instituto Profesional ARCOS. Practical introduction to documentary language and modes of representation, combining research, project development and production methodology. Students developed a coherent documentary proposal and completed a short 5–10 minute work through development, pre-production, shooting, editing and classroom exhibition.
